Frequently Asked Questions

How do I prepare for a facial?
Depending on the treatment there could be some preparing to do before the facial the days or weeks before. I cover it in each service but there are a few things to note.

1) First, you should skip any strong at-home facial treatments the week before your appointment. You should even avoid gentle exfoliation for a few days before, since exfoliation is one of the key steps in a pro facial.

2) Try not to tan or burn near your appointment (or ever) because your esthetician will have to perform a gentle facial to help with the sun damage, instead of one that can really target any deeper concerns you have with your skin.

3) You should also bring in a list of the skin care products you use at home so your esthetician has the information she needs. In addition to your daily skin care products, make sure to bring a list of your medications, medical conditions and past skin conditions so your esthetician can choose products that won’t interact. Even over-the-counter medications can significantly affect your skin.

4) Check your calendar– do you have a big event coming up? Let the spa know ahead of time if your facial is the same day of your event. There are certain treatments and techniques they will avoid and they may have recommendations for the best time to schedule your facial for maximum results.

5) Don’t wax your skin for 24-48 hours before your spa facial. Waxing too soon beforehand could lead to irritation and a stinging sensation.

6) Be prepared to discuss your top skin concerns and your goals for your skin. Your esthetician will help you with specific treatments, but they will also help transform your at-home routine to best tackle your goals. Estheticians are licensed experts in skin and skin care – they should be your go-to resource for information.

7) Lastly, relax! A pro facial is meant to be relaxing, so don’t stress about how to prepare for a facial.

What kind of facial should I get?
There are many different specific treatments aside from the Custom Blend Facial, all designed to tackle very specific and personalized skin concerns:

~Custom Blend Facial for almost any basic skin concern and beyond

~Firm & Lift Facial for sagging skin

~Calming Facial for visible capillaries and redness

~Depigmenting and Brightening Facial for dark spots and hyperpigmentation

~Deep Detox Facial to detoxify congested, dull sluggish or lazy skin

~Pollution Neutralizing Facial to target and revive prematurely aged skin

~Acne Clearing Treatment for congested, broken out skin

~Ultra-Detox Chemical Peels for those with dull, rough-textured skin, chronic blackheads, enlarged pores, excessive milia, lines, and wrinkles, and hyperpigmentation

Even these treatments are Custom Blended to further target your specific needs. I don’t believe in off-the-shelf, one-size-fits-all facial. ALL of my facials are personalized only for you: your environment, your lifestyle, your age, your stress level. It’s skin care made for you – not your friend, not your neighbor – no one else.

~What you want to get out of this pro facial

It’s important to answer each of these questions with in-depth answers to give me the full picture and properly prepare for your facial. I will be making my own observations in addition to the information you provide and will perform a skin analysis every single time you get a facial. A skin analysis is a technique for “reading” your skin for any information you may have forgotten to tell me. This helps me determine the right type of spa facial for you.

What to do after a facial?
Regardless of what type of facial you received; I will put together a specific at-home care post agenda for you– so make sure you follow it.

These directions are based on your skin concerns, your skin type, and any special instructions needed with the specific type of facial you’ve received. They will help continue and maximize the results you achieved during your facial.

What should I avoid after a facial?
Generally, you should avoid hitting the gym after your facial for about 24 hours because you might over stimulate the skin due to sweating and increased circulation. You’ll also want to give your skin a break from exfoliation for 48 hours. This is because your skin experiences a professional level of exfoliation during your spa facial and you don’t want to over exfoliate.

When you do exfoliate or even cleanse the skin next, make sure to not scrub too hard. Always be gentle to your skin, especially after a facial. Makeup is not safe after some of the treatments I provide, make sure to ask if it wasn’t specifically covered if you have questions.

Generally, you can wear makeup after a facial, but your skin will be more sensitive so stick to makeup that isn’t perfumed and doesn’t have ingredients that would clog pores or lead to breakouts. Always use clean makeup brushes.
